Hey,
I hope you're not knee-deep in
overtime at the
moment. Here is this
fortnight's wrap up of useful
Nuke tools and tips.

TABTABTAB
This is a custom tab menu for Nuke, created
by Ben Dickson.
It's a simple, but incredibly powerful tweak
that I honestly can't work without anymore.
A couple key features include:
-
Searching not just the Nodes menu,
but every menu! If you have
an extensive scriptlets menu at your
studio, being able to search that is
invaluable.
-
Does substring matching. As you can
see in the thumbnail above, you only
have to type a couple letters to get
the node you're looking for. Typing
Scrnd to get a ScanlineRender
node is great!
-
Your node searches are weighted,
meaning the more you create a
specific type of node, the closer it
will be to the top of the list.

BASICS: HOW TO SPEED UP YOUR
WORKFLOW BY COMPOSITING
EFFICIENTLY
For the less experienced compositors
subscribed to this newsletter, and more
senior compositors who would like a
refresher, I wrote a "compressed" blog post
to outline some good practices that will
speed up your workflow as an artist, keep
Nuke running smoothly & efficiently, and
ultimately retain the best possible image
quality at the end of your comp.

NUKE
EXPRESSION NODE 101 & WORLD
POSITION
MATH
I came across this article written
by Matt Estela and
Pedro Andrade late last
year. It's filled with some great knowledge
about how you can use Nuke's expression node
to make some simple gradients &
patterns, and then puts that math into
context to help you understand how world
position passes work, and what kinds of
things you can do with them. Cool stuff!

SLOWMO
GUYS: HOW A TV WORKS IN SLOW
MOTION
By this point, knowing how TVs work is
pretty common knowledge. But that doesn't
mean it's not cool to see in slow motion!
Definitely worth skipping through when
you're waiting on your job to be picked up
on the farm...
